UC Events

University of Canberra – Engaging and Expanding

 

8 Feb – O-Week Market Day

New and returning students, promotion of the club via a market stall set up at the university, we'll be seeking some assistance from UC students within the club.

 

22 Feb – UC Club Sports Day

A sports carnival day conducted by UC Sports, where affiliate clubs have an opportunity to recruit and promote their particular sport. Held at UC on Oval 1 between 1:00pm – 4:00pm we'll be running activities throughout the afternoon.

 

26 Feb – Season Launch and UC Intervarsity Trials

In a "Open Day" format, we'll launch the 2017 year:

 

- Come, Meet and Try Volleyball event,

- Spikezone (8 – 12 years),

- Juniors looking to play,

- Open or CVL competitors from UC students,

- College and high school student,

- New and existing Club members and Club alumni.

 

We'll be hosting a BBQ and lots of volleyball activities, prizes and possibly a chance to mingle with Volleyball Australia Centre of Excellence athletes.

 

Dragons UCVC will, in 2017, work with UC Sports through hosting Intervarsity Volleyball Trials at the UC Gym, working to include all volleyball players who are students at UC regardless of club affiliation into the UC sports representative program. The first objective is to defeat ANU at the Intervarsity Sports Day on 23 March.

 

03 Mar – Volleycrawl (Adults only)

Volleycrawl is back and this year it's a joint venture with the ANU Phoenix and the UC Dragons, its aim is a social activity between the two clubs and the theme will be "Yin Yang" between the Phoenix and Dragon.

 

23 Mar – Intervarsity Sports Day

The 2017 UC v ANU Intervarsity Sports Day, this is a battle of the best-of-the-best. The day is full of sport, with over 200 UC students playing across 14 different sporting disciplines. We are looking to have as many club members and families come along wearing club colours, to make lots of noise in support of our UC athletes battling it out against ANU.

11/12 Mar – Tastes of Rutherglen Wine bus tour

The Tastes of Rutherglen is a road trip to the wine regions of North-Eastern Victoria. Departing Friday afternoon returning Sunday afternoon, "Tastes of Rutherglen" is a premiere wine and gourmet food event, with award-winning wineries partnering with leading regional chefs and producers, it's the perfect way to sample the best of what the region has to offer.

 

19 Mar – Speed Friending

Have you ever wondered who are the other members of the Dragons Volleyball Club? Well here's your chance to meet your fellow Dragons, the night will take the format from the popular Speed Dating scene.

 

25 Mar – CAP Expo at the Old Bus Depot

The CAP EXPO showcases the range of opportunities available for Canberrans of all abilities and ages to join groups and build social connections around common interests. We'll be hosting a stall with the Dragon Mascot, Jump Stand and other activities, in an effort to recruit more people to the club.

 

01/02 Apr – ACT Volleyball Shield

The Volleyball Shield is intended to be a high level Men's and Women's indoor tournament aimed at teams entering the CVL competition, travelling to World Masters Games (Auckland, New Zealand), travelling to Oceania Zonal Club Championships (Suva, Fiji) and Interstate teams out of New South Wales and Victoria.

 

21-23 Apr – Oceania Zonal Club Championships to be held in Fiji

Dragons VC is planning on entering teams into the Oceania Zonal Club Championships, we're investigating funding options and looking at a cultural exchange with the Fiji Volleyball Association. Anyone interested in participating in this tour is invited to contact the club through our email address actdragons@gmail.com with the title "Fiji Tour 2017".

 

03 or 05 May – Movie Night (Guardians of the Galaxy 2)

The Dragons Movie night is scheduled for either Wednesday 3rd May (Pre-screening) or Friday 5th May, the date can't be determined until Feb 2017 due to availability of cinemas. Tickets are $20 and will go on sale once the date is confirmed, get in quick as we expect this to be a sell-out event.

 

27 May – Wine Dinner

A tentative date, Dragons VC will be hosting a Wine Makers Dinner at the UC Ann Harding Function Centre, we'll be partnering with one of the Original Families of Wine Making in Australia, providing a three course meal with matched wines and guest speaker.

 

10/11 Jun – Volleyball Tournaments for Juniors and Masters

We'll be hosting various tournaments over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, these will be aimed at Juniors and Masters.

 

8 Jul – Xmas in July Dinner

The Christmas in July dinner will be an event to remember! Presentation night for the Autumn competition teams combined with the festivities of Christmas in July. We'll have all the traditional Christmas fair, competitions and if possible snow (anyone know a snow dance?).

 

11/12 Aug – 24hrs Volleython

Yes it's back the 24hrs Volleython, the Volleython will start Friday evening and run continuously for 24 hours, there'll be food, drinks and music to keep everyone going throughout the night. Assistance from senior members will be sought to support (or participate) in this event, with funds raised being directed to our junior and senior representative members.

 

26 Aug – Dragons Texas Hold'em Poker Night (Adults only)

The Texas Hold'em Poker night will be a fun filled night of cards, drinks and the odd gun fight (ok I've been told, no gun fighting), the theme will be Country and Western with lots of Dragon Dollars to be won.

 

18 Oct – Dragons Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Lock in the date, this is where you find out how the club is travelling and who is representing you in the administration requirements for VACT and ACT Government. It is also a chance to join the club administration team officially or to support those you feel best suit the needs of the club going forward. Get involved, come along and engage with the key club requirement!

 

04 Nov – Dragons End of Year Dinner

The Dragons 'End of Year' Dinner and Party, this is a relaxed night of dining, raffles, networking and awards, reflecting on the year that was, new friends made, old friendships renewed, junior and senior and what bigger and better plans we have for 2018.
